Run---
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
in admin cmd prompt & then---
sfc /scannow
Go to http://download.live.com
Click Download
Can Download when prompted to download the 1 MB Web Installer
Click Try again, the option to download the 137 MB installer will be displayed.
Right click the setup file and click Run as Administrator
Temporarily disable your Antivirus utility.
Run the Windows Installer Clean Utility:

Also clear out your temp files directory
Click Start, type: %temp%
Delete the contents of that directory and try installing again.
This problem may occur if the Windows Update database is corrupted. I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps.

You may disable the Proxy setting and check if it helps:
a. Follow these steps and check if it helps.

b. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

c. Uncheck the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
d. Click Ok.
Method 3:
- Type Notepad on start screen, and press enter.
- Copy the following text, and then paste the text into Notepad.

ren Download Download.old
net start wuauserv
net stop bits
net start bits
net stop cryptsvc
cd %systemroot%\system32
ren catroot2 catroot2old
net start cryptsvc
3. Click File, click Save As, and then type Repair.bat.
4. In the Save as type box, click All Files.
5. In the Save in box, click Desktop, and then click Save.
6. On the File menu, click Exit.
7. Double-click the Repair.bat file that you saved in step 5.
Try to install the updates again. If you can install the updates, delete the Repair.bat file. To do this, right-click Repair.bat, click Delete, and then click Yes.

ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for this post. It is only method 3 which works perfectly fine. I didn't knew this simple thing could solve my problem so easily. I was thinking of completely uninstalling MSE and switching to some other security software but thank God i came here.
ReplyDeleteOnly method 3 works you need to just copy those commands given here and paste them in a notepad program and save it as Repair.bat file but make sure that you have selected all files option before saving the file. Now just open it and then open MSE and try updating i think this should solve your problem. Best of luck.
As to what brings MSE 4.0 ... the user interface is simplified announced although in reality it was already quite simple. The service to automatically report SpyNet malware to Microsoft for MAPS is now called Microsoft Active Protection Service. A priori, it is just a name change. Serious Security Alarms
